My grandparents watched formula 1 around 20 years ago, they went to the paddock during the Shanghai GP (it was the race Fernando clinched his championship for renault). hoping to see you sir, but unfortunately they didn’t. I have always loved you from the beginning of your championship runs with Mercedes to the brilliant win in Barcelona a few weeks ago. I have your helmet on display by my PC. There are some years that pass like calendars, and there are years that pass like storms. Last year was a storm. Not a cinematic kind. Not the sort that arrives dramatically and leaves behind a lesson wrapped in poetry. The real Kind, the exhausting one, the kind that settles into the walls of your home and in the corners of your mind. The kind where surviving a Tuesday feels like surviving a century. There was no single catastrophe, no one event around which the narrative could nearly organise itself; instead, it unfolded with slow and relentless precision of erosion. One disappointment followed another, professionally, mentally, emotionally, a complete package.
Even the body, which had been an ally, started feeling like a contested territory. What made the experience particularly disorienting was that I had spent most of my life knowing and believing how to withstand adversity. Sport had taught me that. Long before adulthood entered my life, there were football grounds and athletic tracks. Training sessions that began before sunrise and tournaments that ended long after exhaustion had taken hold. Coaches who taught discipline, opposition who taught humility, there were victories, certainly, but more importantly, there were defeats, mistakes, disappointments. Sport taught me during failure far more thoroughly than success ever can. Sports had shaped me long before adulthood did.
Athletes learn something very early. The first battle is never fought on the field or the track. It is fought inside your head. Long before the whistle blows, long before the starting gun fires, long before the lights go out. Your mind carries you through fatigue, disappointment, injury and defeat. Resilience is not an abstract virtue. It is a muscle, the one that grows every time you choose not to quit. For most of my life, that muscle never failed me. Until it did.
The voice that knew how to push forward suddenly had nothing left to say. And when people find themselves trapped in a di?icult season, they look for escapes. Mine has always been sports. It’s not something I do as a hobby or watch on weekends. Sport is how I understand the world. Sport is what made me who I am, how I think. A football pitch is home to me, every mistake is information, and every setback becomes a lesson. Every challenge showed a visible solution. A control that I was struggling to find in my real life, yet was somehow able to find on turf.
Among all sports, there has always been one that sits closest to my heart. Formula One. Yes, more than football (uncomfortable confession). The beauty of F1 lies in its contradiction. It’s simultaneously human and mechanical. The world often talks about F1 as though cars are doing all the work, but anyone who truly follows the sport understands how incomplete that understanding is. The car truly does represent the highest expression of engineering brilliance, yet it remains useless without the person sitting inside it. The driver must become as refined, precise, and resilient as the machine itself. Every corner entered at 300km per hour demands not just physical skill but mental clarity. Every decision is made under pressure, every mistake is punished immediately, and among all drivers who have occupied a F1 seat, one name has always stood apart. Sir Lewis Hamilton.
A name that needs no introduction, a name that is larger than the boundaries of the sport, a name that defines Formula One. Last year, when my own life seemed determined to continue its descent through increasingly inventive layers of rock bottom, Lewis Hamilton was preparing for one of the most significant transitions of his career, a move so monumental that it felt less like a transfer and more like history changing lanes. His move to Ferrari. It was the sporting equivalent of watching two legends deciding to share the same stage.
What I did not know at that time was that his season was about to become far more important to me than the sport. Because somewhere between the race weekends, media interviews, qualifying sessions, setbacks, and headlines, I would begin to recognise something strangely familiar unfolding on the other side of the television screen. Not failure, not disappointment, something far more human. Adaption.
The uncomfortable, uncertain process of something new while carrying the weight of everything you used to be. While I was trying to navigate the wreckage of my own life, Hamilton seemed to be navigating the unfamiliar terrain of his own. And somewhere in that struggle, a strange connection emerged, not because I believed our circumstances felt comparable, but because I recognised something. The e?ort. The daily decision to continue. His refusal to surrender simply because the terrain felt hard.
Lewis doesn’t know I exist, yet every interview felt oddly personal. Every race weekend felt like a conversation. Every setback felt instructive. I was dealing with professional uncertainty, disappointments that seemed to multiply faster than the solutions. Then came an Injury, the most cruel-est chapter of all. That one thing that had kept me afloat was suddenly taken away. Training stopped, football stopped, and a structure that kept me afloat disappeared overnight.
Meanwhile, somewhere across continents and across time zones, a man in red overalls kept showing up every weekend. Just steady forward movement, the kind that rarely attracts attention. He was navigating how to move forward without immediate rewards, and I was trying to do the same. It felt as if he was quietly demonstrating how di?icult transitions are survived.
Cut to a year later, the results improved. Canada delivered a remarkable second-place finish and, perhaps, more importantly, visible confidence. Monaco reinforced momentum, and by then, small changes in my own life had begun appearing. Professional opportunities that had seemed impossible last year started becoming realistic possibilities. Nothing had been resolved, but for the first time, in a very long time, movement had replaced stagnation. Momentum, whether in F1 or in life, often arrives quietly before revealing itself all at once.
Then came Barcelona, a job, and the clearance from the injury. That day I watched the race alone at home, yet I did not feel alone. I had invested months into this journey. Those uncertain race weekends, that di?icult adaptation, I had witnessed the persistence of Lewis. As the laps disappeared and victory moved from possibility to probability, an unfamiliar emotion began to surface. Relief. The profound belief that something you desperately wanted to believe finally becomes real. When Hamilton crossed the finish line and secured his first Ferrari victory, the tears arrived immediately and refused to stop. They continued through celebrations, through the interviews, through the evening, and into the next day. Had anyone asked me why I was crying, I would have struggled to answer. The tears had very little to do with Barcelona itself. They belonged to everything that had come before it.
Watching Hamilton climb from that Ferrari felt like witnessing proof that di?icult transitions eventually find their way toward resolution. Not because success is guaranteed, but because persistence matters. Because showing up repeatedly when circumstances refuse to cooperate matters.
What made the moment even more meaningful was what had followed. In his post-race interview, Lewis spoke about the fans. He mentioned that they had reminded him who he was during the periods when remembering became di?icult. It was a beautiful observation, one that resonated deeply. Sitting in front of my television, I wanted to respond. Because while he was thanking his fans for helping him remember who he was, one of those fans had spent the entire previous year remembering who she was because of him.
Sir Lewis Hamilton, if these words ever find their way to you, there is something I hope you understand. You once said that giving up is easy and that real challenge lies in showing up every day, even when it gets hard. Last year, I watched you live them and in doing so, you unknowingly helped someone do the same. While you were finding your place in Ferrari, one of your biggest fans was trying to find her place within her own life again. You were there during the darkest laps ever, and somehow even when the chequered flag finally came into view again. While you were remembering who you were, you helped somebody else remember as well.

I just want to thank you for speaking out about the inhumane and unbearable situation faced by the victims of the war in Gaza. While many people stay silent out of fear of damage to their reputation or financial consequences, you’ve had the courage to speak up.
I wish more influential people would make that kind of brave choice. It might even help shift things among those who ultimately decide when a war ends.
I can imagine you get a lot of criticism for this and maybe even lose some fans. I’m not a fan of yours myself and I don’t follow car races, but I do see that you’re giving a voice to people who often aren’t heard and who are living in really harsh conditions, including hunger.

Hello Sir Lewis Hamilton We met at the 2016 Singapore Grand Prix, I was 4 years old and it is the only memory I have of that trip. Me and my dad saw you at a restaurant with the team and couldn’t resist coming over to talk and get a picture, you were the first celebrity and only celebrity I’ve met that seemed a genuinely amazing person. I’ve driven the Benneton B-198 chassis with a Judd engine myself, so I can relate to AND LOVE WATCHING your piano-like “touch” when you’re driving (anything I’m sure!) Colorado highways must be a joy for you! One of the BEST roads (no traffic and wonderful corners and relaxing valleys) near Aspen/Vail is CO 131 from Wolcott up to Tonopas, then 134 over to Kremmling. If you continue on US 40 east from there, Rocky Mountain National Park is exceptional tour at 3,000-3,500 m! I live over in Berthoud CO and love driving central Colorado!
Have you driven in New Zealand yet? I have a house in Cromwell you can lay low in (it sleeps five and it’s all yours. My guy would just check you in, keep his mouth shut and lock up when you leave. There’s a track in Cromwell! The roads on the south island and the state of consciousness of the uplifted sea floor rock that supports like and a happy people…wow! ========================================== Is it true you are now enjoying card collecting? I made the coolest telephone cards -ever- made: The “Stealthcard” and the “Diamond Marilyn”: both made with the most expensive carbon composite ever produced for the US defense industry (wing box carry through structure for the B2 strategic bomber).
The image was heat-pressed into the carbon at 300C and a ton of pressure. CZ “star” and industrial diamonds as stars. Signed by me on back.
You can search “Diamond Marilyn” and see one of them online. Today, I saw one on eBay for $15 or so! Marilyn Network cards were the whole collection
Originally, my plan was for the “Marilyn Network” access 800# to be answered by Marilyn’s synthesized voice. I went to the USAF lab at Rome NY (RADC) to get the voice synthesis tech. Their voice tech (in 1994) was so good they could intercept Soviet leadership phone calls and tell if the voice was recorded or live! A standing joke in the RADC office was an intercept of Leonid Brezhnev talking with his mistress from his limo! The BS I then had to deal with was a Texas company that would integrate the voice tech into a telephone switch. As I recall, they wanted $50,000 from me…and I would not own the technology. They would license it to anyone! Screw that!
Anyway, if it’s true you collect cards I will be happy to GIFT you a complete, number-matching set of Marilyn Network cards, supporting documentation and magazine articles and an album to keep it all in pages! Please just let me know your shipping address!

There are some years that pass like calendars, and there are years that pass like storms. Last year was a storm. Not a cinematic kind. Not the sort that arrives dramatically and leaves behind a lesson wrapped in poetry. The real Kind, the exhausting one, the kind that settles into the walls of your home and in
the corners of your mind. The kind where surviving a Tuesday feels like surviving a century. There was no single catastrophe, no one event around which the narrative could nearly organise itself; instead, it unfolded with slow and relentless precision of erosion. One disappointment followed another, professionally, mentally, emotionally, a complete package.
Even the body, which had been an ally, started feeling like a contested territory.
What made the experience particularly disorienting was that I had spent most of my life knowing and believing how to withstand adversity. Sport had taught me that.
Long before adulthood entered my life, there were football grounds and athletic tracks. Training sessions that began before sunrise and tournaments that ended long after exhaustion had taken hold. Coaches who taught discipline, opposition who taught humility, there were victories, certainly, but more importantly, there were defeats, mistakes, disappointments. Sport taught me during failure far more thoroughly than success ever can. Sports had shaped me long before
adulthood did.
Athletes learn something very early. The first battle is never fought on the field or the track. It is fought inside your head. Long before the whistle blows, long before the starting gun fires, long before the lights go out. Your mind carries you through fatigue, disappointment, injury and defeat. Resilience is not an abstract virtue. It is a muscle, the one that grows every time you choose not to quit. For most of my life, that muscle never failed me. Until it did.
The voice that knew how to push forward suddenly had nothing left to say. And when people find themselves trapped in a di?icult season, they look for escapes. Mine has always been sports. It’s not something I do as a hobby or watch on weekends. Sport is how I understand the world. Sport is what made me who I am, how I think. A football pitch is home to me, every mistake is information, and every setback becomes a lesson. Every challenge showed a visible solution. A control that I was struggling to find in my real life, yet was somehow able to find on turf.
Among all sports, there has always been one that sits closest to my heart. Formula One. Yes, more than football (uncomfortable confession). The beauty of F1 lies in its contradiction. It’s simultaneously human and mechanical. The world often talks about F1 as though cars are doing all the work, but anyone who truly follows the sport understands how incomplete that understanding is. The car truly does represent the highest expression of engineering brilliance, yet it remains useless without the person sitting inside it. The driver must become as refined, precise, and resilient as the machine itself. Every corner entered at 300km per hour demands not just physical skill but mental clarity. Every decision is made under pressure, every mistake is punished immediately, and among all drivers who have occupied a F1 seat, one name has always stood apart. Sir Lewis Hamilton.
A name that needs no introduction, a name that is larger than the boundaries of the sport, a name that defines Formula One. Last year, when my own life seemed determined to continue its descent through increasingly inventive layers of rock bottom, Lewis Hamilton was preparing for one of the most significant transitions of his career, a move so monumental that it felt less like a transfer and more like history changing lanes. His move to Ferrari. It was the sporting equivalent of watching two legends deciding to share the same stage.
What I did not know at that time was that his season was about to become far more important to me than the sport. Because somewhere between the race weekends, media interviews, qualifying sessions, setbacks, and headlines, I would begin to recognise something strangely familiar unfolding on the other side of the television screen. Not failure, not disappointment, something far more human. Adaption.
The uncomfortable, uncertain process of something new while carrying the weight of everything you used to be. While I was trying to navigate the wreckage of my own life, Hamilton seemed to be navigating the unfamiliar terrain of his own. And somewhere in that struggle, a strange connection emerged, not because I believed our circumstances felt comparable, but because I recognised something. The e?ort. The daily decision to continue. His refusal to surrender simply because the terrain felt hard.
Lewis doesn’t know I exist, yet every interview felt oddly personal. Every race weekend felt like a conversation. Every setback felt instructive. I was dealing with professional uncertainty, disappointments that seemed to multiply faster than the solutions. Then came an Injury, the most cruel-est chapter of all. That one thing that had kept me afloat was suddenly taken away. Training stopped, football stopped, and a structure that kept me afloat disappeared overnight.
Meanwhile, somewhere across continents and across time zones, a man in red overalls kept showing up every weekend. Just steady forward movement, the kind that rarely attracts attention. He was navigating how to move forward without immediate rewards, and I was trying to do the same. It felt as if he was quietly demonstrating how di?icult transitions are survived.
Cut to a year later, the results improved. Canada delivered a remarkable second-place finish and, perhaps, more importantly, visible confidence. Monaco reinforced momentum, and by then, small changes in my own life had begun appearing. Professional opportunities that had seemed impossible last year started becoming realistic possibilities. Nothing had been resolved, but for the first time, in a very long time, movement had replaced stagnation. Momentum, whether in F1 or in life, often arrives quietly before revealing itself all at once.
Then came Barcelona, a job, and the clearance from the injury. That day I watched the race alone at home, yet I did not feel alone. I had invested months into this journey. Those uncertain race weekends, that di?icult adaptation, I had witnessed the persistence of Lewis. As the laps disappeared and victory moved from possibility to probability, an unfamiliar emotion began to surface. Relief. The profound belief that something you desperately wanted to believe finally becomes real. When Hamilton crossed the finish line and secured his first Ferrari victory, the tears arrived immediately and refused to stop. They continued through celebrations, through the interviews, through the evening, and into the next day. Had anyone asked me why I was crying, I would have struggled to answer. The tears had very little to do with Barcelona itself. They belonged to everything that had come before it.
Watching Hamilton climb from that Ferrari felt like witnessing proof that di?icult transitions eventually find their way toward resolution. Not because success is guaranteed, but because persistence matters. Because showing up repeatedly when circumstances refuse to cooperate matters.
What made the moment even more meaningful was what had followed. In his post-race interview, Lewis spoke about the fans. He mentioned that they had reminded him who he was during the periods when remembering became di?icult. It was a beautiful observation, one that resonated deeply. Sitting in front of my television, I wanted to respond. Because while he was thanking his fans for helping him remember who he was, one of those fans had spent the entire previous year remembering who she was because of him.
Sir Lewis Hamilton, if these words ever find their way to you, there is something I hope you understand. You once said that giving up is easy and that real challenge lies in showing up every day, even when it gets hard. Last year, I watched you live them and in doing so, you unknowingly helped someone do the same. While you were finding your place in Ferrari, one of your biggest fans was trying to find her place within her own life again. You were there during the darkest laps ever, and somehow even when the chequered flag finally came into view again. While you were remembering who you were, you helped somebody else remember as well.

I just want to thank you for speaking out about the inhumane and unbearable situation faced by the victims of the war in Gaza. While many people stay silent out of fear of damage to their reputation or financial consequences, you’ve had the courage to speak up.
I wish more influential people would make that kind of brave choice. It might even help shift things among those who ultimately decide when a war ends.

so I can relate to AND LOVE WATCHING your piano-like “touch” when you’re driving (anything I’m sure!) Colorado highways must be a joy for you! One of the BEST roads (no traffic and wonderful corners and relaxing valleys) near Aspen/Vail is CO 131 from Wolcott up to Tonopas, then 134 over to Kremmling. If you continue on US 40 east from there, Rocky Mountain National Park is exceptional tour at 3,000-3,500 m! I live over in Berthoud CO and love driving central Colorado!
Have you driven in New Zealand yet? I have a house in Cromwell you can lay low in (it sleeps five and it’s all yours. My guy would just check you in, keep his mouth shut and lock up when you leave. There’s a track in Cromwell! The roads on the south island and the state of consciousness of the uplifted sea floor rock that supports like and a happy people…wow!

Is it true you are now enjoying card collecting?
I made the coolest telephone cards -ever- made: The “Stealthcard” and the “Diamond Marilyn”: both made with the most expensive carbon composite ever produced for the US defense industry (wing box carry through structure for the B2 strategic bomber).
The image was heat-pressed into the carbon at 300C and a ton of pressure. CZ “star” and industrial diamonds as stars. Signed by me on back.

Today, I saw one on eBay for $15 or so!
Marilyn Network cards were the whole collection
Originally, my plan was for the “Marilyn Network” access 800# to be answered by Marilyn’s synthesized voice. I went to the USAF lab at Rome NY (RADC) to get the voice synthesis tech. Their voice tech (in 1994) was so good they could intercept Soviet leadership phone calls and tell if the voice was recorded or live! A standing joke in the RADC office was an intercept of Leonid Brezhnev talking with his mistress from his limo!
The BS I then had to deal with was a Texas company that would integrate the voice tech into a telephone switch. As I recall, they wanted $50,000 from me…and I would not own the technology. They would license it to anyone! Screw that!
Anyway, if it’s true you collect cards I will be happy to GIFT you a complete, number-matching set of Marilyn Network cards, supporting documentation and magazine articles and an album to keep it all in pages! Please just let me know your shipping address!
